Summer Elopement at Dorothea Dix with Skylar and Katrina
Skylar and Katrina decided to tie the knot under a beautiful arch at Dorothea Dix in the Summer of 2021. It was a hot day, but they were all smiles as we walked around for their portraits. I remember planning for this day and trying to assist the with finding the perfect location… something you should look for in a photographer, is someone who is willing to assist you on all levels.
Yes, our main focus is to make sure you have photographic evidence of your big day, but our role shouldn’t stop there. You want someone who is good with communication, planning, and timing. But more importantly, you want someone who is willing to put in the time to help you find the right place for photos like I did with Skylar and Katrina, but maybe also help you coordinate and plan your outfits to fit a theme for your shoot. I would say the one thing I have learned working with such a wide variety of clients, is that it’s important to find someone who remembers that at the end of the day, the products should feel like “you.” Your photographer should be working with you to make sure you feel comfortable in the shots, they should make sure that the entire environment is what feels most like you. And one way I love doing this is by talking to my clients and asking them for their mood boards or having the conversations about what they want to get out of the project.
In fact, to bring it back to Skylar and Katrina, I know that the background had always been decided as a garden for their photos. But it was a matter of finding which one would best fit them. They wanted to find a place that would not require a permit to be married and somewhere in which foot traffic would not be an issue. Skylar even went by and checked out some areas and sent me photos of his vision and asked me how i felt before we finalized our plans.
And from all that extra time, planning and collaboration, these gorgeous photos were born!
