How to Pick the Perfect Outfits for Your Fall Family Photos in Raleigh, NC
I know we’re just getting started with the summer heat, but fall is around the corner and I love offering fall family minis for all who are interested!
Getting your outfits just right for a family photo shoot can be challenging, there is a lot of color coordinating and making sure everything meshes well with the background. And the timing of fall can also be a tricky thing! Most of the time when one is picturing how they want their fall photos to look, they are thinking of the changing leaves in the background that create warm hues or maybe even pumpkin patches.
So what’s the best way to prepare your outfits and make sure you have the best results?
Well, my advice to you is layers! I feel like depending on how late the autumn season is, you can always mix a good variety of neutral colors with the more fall outfit colors of maroon, navy, rust orange, or dark forest greens that are typical of fall shoots. You want to choose a color scheme that pops out subtly against those warm hues that are present when the leaves have started changing. But if it’s early on and there is still so much green around like the shoot below, you have the ability to be a bit more fun and flashy in your colors of choice. Lots of times, people tend to stick to earthy tones too… so I see lots of sweaters that are more cream or beige. The point is to stand out but not so dramatically, you want to complement the background you’ve chosen for the shoot.
A big reason that I suggest layers, especially for kids, is because it can be cold and you want everyone to be comfortable and smiling for these photos! It can be hard to represent the happy family vibes that you are going for when your companions aren’t comfortable in what they wear too, so always make sure what you’ve chosen is something they feel good in and fits around the time of the photos (yes I am thinking of all those super prepared people who order outfits way too early before the shoot… please always remember to try things on leading up to your photography session.)
Fall is just such a beautiful time and what you wear just needs to follow these three things: It needs to be comfy and easy to move in. It needs to complement the background and not make you stick out poorly. And it needs to feel like you!
