Romantic Wedding at Carolina Inn Wedding in Chapel Hill with Kat & Charlie

Charlie and Kat met at SXSW in 2017. He had been sent there on assignment for work, and Kat had been attending the festival and the chemistry was instant. They were long distance for awhile, but Kat would send care packages and letters to Charlie when she was living in Nashville and ultimately they decided it was time to move in together in Chapel Hill. After awhile they both decided to change scenery and moved to Brooklyn together. Funny enough it wasn’t until our consultation that I realized I had actually met Kat before. She works in the art museum space and we met a few years back when I shot this session at the NCMA for The Doctorette.

Just as we got along in that first meeting, we instantly became friends. Their casual, laid back attitudes, as well as their amazing sense of humor made them excellent clients. Throughout the wedding planning process, we had several calls where I got to know them better, and Kat shared some artistic inspiration she wanted to embody for the day, including still life’s of food and drink throughout the reception to rival those portraits she’d seen on the walls in restaurants in New York and in art galleries.

They knew they wanted to have a small, intimate wedding in Chapel Hill. And honestly so many couples are choosing to go small these days.

Small guest counts at weddings create an intimate and romantic environment by allowing the couple to focus on the genuine connections with their nearest and dearest. With fewer people in attendance, the atmosphere becomes more relaxed and personal, fostering deeper interactions and meaningful conversations. The couple can fully engage with each guest, making everyone feel valued and appreciated. In a smaller setting, the love and emotions are palpable, creating an atmosphere that is undeniably romantic.

My favorite element of the night was the personal stories their officiant told, as well as the live band at the reception. Feel free to keep scrolling to check out the entire day.
