In-Home Family Photography in Durham with The Faison's

In home family photos have been a new favorite passion of mine. Being able to see inside's clients home (which is so personal) being able to capture them in this safe space, to capture their family, it's such an honor and privilege. Amber wanted to snap some photos before Ava's first birthday at their home in Durham.

A lot of clients ask me how they can prepare for in-home photography sessions and I like to give them these helpful tips:

  1. Don’t make your space feel unlike yourself. If you’re a little cluttered embrace it (you’re talking to a maximalist here) but just pick up things off the floor etc.

  2. Choose rooms with the most natural light. Of course we can add flash to these sessions but I find rooms with natural light makes for the best photos

  3. Turn off overhead or ambient lights. Occasionally I’ll ask to turn on an ambient light but for the most part, these additional lights create a yellow or blue hue on your images.

  4. Be yourself. This is so important! I want you to act how you normally would. Sit on the floor and engage with each other, lounge around, laugh, talk, interact with one another. These are all things that will help capture your authentic selves within the images.
