Western Inspired Family Portraits at Dix Park with the Whitehurst's
Family photo shoots are a great way to capture memories and growth, but a great way to make it fun is by finding new themes and coordinating outfits for something new and exciting, like the Whitehurst have done below. Having recently visited Utah, they wanted to incorporate some western themes into this family shoot. So, they dusted off some cowboy hats, blue jean jackets and their cowboy boots and had a great time posing like they were in their backyard in the American Frontier, when in reality we were all at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh!
There are plenty of ways to make your family shoot different. Some people like to include their pets, some people extend their normal “family bench” by adding in new players each year, etc. Even mixing up photos to be something like “Grandparents with grand kids” or a “siblings by generation” style can help exhibit the deep relationships of the people in the photos!
What makes these photos even better though, is that everyone is having a good time. You can only get genuine smiles when everyone has an emotional response as well. And I bet that as The Whitehurst Family was posing for me, they also had a moment to reminisce about their family trip, which only reflected more of their loving relationship on camera!
I, myself, as a photographer really love working with people on their themed/styled ideas. So if you ever have questions about how to bring a theme to life, I will be there by creating mood boards and looking at purchases you’ve made for your outfits. I love the creative side of this job and the results are just the cherry on top!
